What's Your Legacy?

Have you ever considered what your legacy will be? The simple truth is we are all going to leave one, be it good or bad.  But have you given deliberate thought to what you want your legacy to be?  Are you actively creating a legacy of love and respect, a legacy of inspiration, a legacy of giving?

Join us on January 12th, 2016 to hear the inspiring story of Ellie and Bob Haan as Ellie shares the story of the Haan Museum http://haanmuseum.org.  The unique historic 15,000 square foot mansion is the backdrop for three museums in one; an Indiana Artist oil painting collection, an American furniture collection and Indiana ceramics collection.

This incredible legacy the Haans are leaving to Lafayette and all of Indiana is made possible by virtue of running a successful business.  Ellie will share some key strategies that she and Bob utilized at Haan Crafts to become the industry leader in their market segment of sewing kits to Home Economics classes.

Come be inspired, it's a great story you don't want to miss.  Call a friend, bring a friend...see you at AWBO!

A Note from Your President...

I have a New Year’s resolution, more on that in a minute.  As I look back over what AWBO was able to achieve in December, I think about what momentum this will carry for us into the next year.   Have you heard the news?  Your organization was able to raise over $5,000.00 (with a contributing check for $500 from Wabash National) to be donated to Cary Home.   We also had a record attendance this year with over 70 people turning out for this event.

Your organization just broke 2 records in 2015!  What were some of your team’s accomplishments in 2015?   Do those successes spur you on to higher goals for next year or do you take it as “Good Luck”?  Were they achieved by coincidence or were they achieved by a strategic plan?  Was the plan on paper?

The largest decision I feel our organization has to decide in this next year is whether or not we want to grow this auction. This would almost surely mean re-locating the event. Could the principles we used to grow the auction be used to grow our membership?  Which do you feel takes a higher priority growing the membership or growing the auction as our community service event?  We would love your feedback. Both will bring more exposure to AWBO and hopefully entice others to check out our organization.

I keep a note card on my desk that reads: “Great marketing will only make a bad product fail faster”.  Does our organization meet the standard of being friendly, provide great networking, or offer key strategic advice to a prospective visitor?   If you answered “yes”, then let’s take a hard look at all the visitors that have attended in the last year but have not joined?   It’s up to all of us as members to be concerned about the survival of this organization.  What legacy is this generation of AWBO women leaving for members of the future?

My New Year’s Resolution is this: Do at least (1) creative thing a day.  I need a respite from doing the day to day business (Which was the original mission statement of this group).   When I don’t take time to get re-charged by doing something creative my business and my mental and emotional health suffer.  Instead of your tag line in January, please plan to share a change or improvements you wish to make in your business for the new year!

Best regards,
Susan Benedict

Board Member Spotlight-
Anna Kennedy

Mary Kay and AWBO offer me the opportunity to meet and learn from talented and professional ladies.

As a Tippecanoe County Native, I have enjoyed the best lifehas to offer by travelling the world as a NAVY WIFE and Mortgage Banker.  Bill and I (my husband of 45 years) graduated from Wainwright High School.  After 26 years in the Navy, we returned to my childhood home in 1995.  Who would have thought we would leave Florida for Indiana!!

With the encouragement of my niece and sister,  I became a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant in 2006.  I have loved and used the Mary Kay Products for over 25 years.Becoming a consultant opened the door to not only a great network of hard working and sharing Christian Ladies but also the benefits that Mary Kay offers….training, trips, jewelry, discounts, prizes and of course the famous Pink Cadillac.  For me the best part is, assisting customers and fellow consultants finding that product and LOOK that makes them feel special.

Both AWBO and Mary Kay gives me the avenue to learn from the best business ladies Lafayette has to offer.
