Credit Card Reality Check

The convenience of accepting credit card payments at your business comes at a price. The threat of credit card fraud is very real. But not accepting credit card payments is not an option for many businesses today.
Do you know what you’re paying to process each transaction?  There are over 249 credit cards that can walk into your business, each of them carry a cost.... Interchange Cost. The costs range from .23 cents for debit transactions to 2.89% for American Express. Do you ever wonder why that is?

Do you get frustrated every month when your statement comes and you don't understand it? Are you curious how new fees show up each month on your statement? Have you ever been asked to pay a PCI Compliance fee? Batch fee? Statement fee? Monthly fee? Annual fee?
Daphne Larson from Heartland Payment Systems will be with us on Tuesday Jan. 8th to explain what we need to know when considering merchants processing systems. She will tell us what to look for - what to avoid. Spend a little time with AWBO and you will be sure to start your new year hitting the ground running!

From the President...

Happy New Year!
As the pulse of the new year begins lets reflect on your goals for 2013. As business professionals, you know how to complete a job on time and in budget. Sometimes the day-to-day business demands of cash flow, bonding, insurance and just plain leadership can be daunting for us all. Our AWBO Programs Committee will delight your thirst for knowledge in 2013. You will find advice from experts, keep up to date on what's happening in the business world, keep you focused on your business plan and most of all, AWBO is a Cheerleader for your Success. Each month is a new topic and you have the opportunity to be a 3-Minute Spot Light to showcase your business. I have the 2nd Tuesday of each month in my Outlook as an AWBO Reminder, I hope you do as well.

My Business Tip for the New Year: Safety - If you're not safe, your business survival is in question. Review the safety trends that apply to your industry and train employees regarding company policies and safety issues... better to be proactive, than reactive.

Wishing everyone a prosperous and successful new year. See you Tuesday, January 8th at MCL!
